In 1998 I was sworn into the Wakeman Police Department as a Reserve Officer by Chief Don Newbill. In 2001 I was promoted to a Full Time Officer and later that year I was promoted to the rank of Corporal. On August 4, 2003 I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant by Chief Tim Hunker. I have received several citations including; Police Service Award, Safe Driving Award, and Volunteer Service Award. I will have served five years as a Full Time Officer as of this March 28, 2006.
My goals as a Sergeant are to continue assisting the Chief in leading fellow Officers to be proactive while maintaining a professional relationship with the Public. Promote Brotherhood in the Police Department while maintaining a supervisory role in the Chain of Command. Provide the best up to date training possible for new and current Officers. And help continue to bring programs to the Village such as: “Keep kids Lives Drive 25”, Certified Field Training, Bike Patrol, Drug Enforcement Unit, and a Police Honor Guard.
I became a certified Field Training Officer for the Police Department which helps provide new Officers with better training and brings accreditation to the Department. I also provide fellow Officers updated information and training provided to me from other Law Enforcement Agencies during training seminars. This information helps to prepare them to deal with situations in the most efficient and legal way while maintaining Officer Safety. Working in a small town has provided me with the satisfaction that what I do does matter. Over the years I have established relationships within the community and will continue to do so.
In closing I can say I am proud of the service I have given to the Residents of the Village of Wakeman. I am the first in my family to have taken on this challenge as a career. It is a life long dream come true and is still rewarding to this day. I hope that the Village Of Wakeman Residents continues to see the rewards of having a supported Police Department. So that we can continue to grow and meet the constant challenges of being a Wakeman Police Officer and provide the best service possible to the community.
